Central Texans love their Crape Myrtles and what’s not to love about the “Lilac of the South?” From their long bloom time to their elegant pink flowers, they add curb appeal to a home while providing a lovely scent. However, we’re not the only ones who enjoy these beautiful trees.

All crape myrtles in Central Texas attract sap-sucking insects, known as aphids, that will cause disease to the trees. If your leaves appear to be shiny or sticky, that’s the aphids secreting honeydew. If you look closely at those leaves you will be able to see the small pests.

It is important to get ahead of this process by treating and fertilizing your trees at bud break, which typically is March. The Spring Treatment will allow for a bug-free growth cycle while the fertilization will allow for more blooms.

Good Guys Tree Service has been serving the Austin & Lakeway areas, and its Crape Myrtles, for over 25 years.
